In 2023, the Australian Government announced funding to expand the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) to provide energy ratings for existing homes. From mid-2025 the NatHERS administrator will progressively assume responsibility for the training, accreditation and quality assurance of existing homes assessors. During this time, the NatHERS administrator will also finalise the accreditation requirements for rating tools used to deliver NatHERS for existing homes assessments.
It is anticipated that Scorecard will cease delivery of Scorecard assessor training, accreditation, quality controls, and tool operation by mid-2026. The specific timing for the transition of each program element is dependent on the corresponding scale up of NatHERS for existing homes.
Householders wanting to rate their home’s energy use and comfort, or receive tailored recommendations to improve its performance, will still be able to access Scorecard assessments during the transition period.
Scorecard assessors that wish to become accredited to deliver NatHERS for existing homes assessments will be supported to access a streamlined training and accreditation pathway.
Further information and details about the transition will become available progressively following the initial release of NatHERS for existing homes in mid-2025. Sign up to our regular Scorecard Update newsletter and visit our website to keep informed.
